Discover on the 45 km long bike route in the south of the Palatinate, near the French border, the fairy-tale-like Bienwald as well as the Rhine floodplains near Hagenbach and Neuburg am Rhein.
The flat and mostly traffic-free route leads through shady forest passages, idyllic villages, and past woods and meadows. A particularly beautiful section lies between Hagenbach and Neuburg. Here you cycle past agricultural fields and through original forest areas where you can smell wild garlic in spring. With some luck, you may spot a nutria or a turtle at the old Rhine arms, for which there is a dedicated path with information boards in Neuburg. Like an oasis, the village of Büchelberg with its orchards lies in the middle of the forest. There you sometimes find information boards belonging to the local bee and orchard nature trail. Also, pay attention on the forest section to the small wooden signs at forest path crossings that sometimes have interesting and amusing names. Because here in the Bienwald almost every forest path has its own name. The last stretch along the stream between Minfeld and Kandel lets you enjoy the beautiful meadow landscape on the edge of the Bienwald once more.
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
- Be considerate – Always behave foresightedly, kindly, and considerately towards everyone you meet along the way. This applies especially on farm roads where winemakers, farmers, and foresters work even on weekends.
- Picnic & litter – Remember to take a garbage bag with you and take your waste home. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
- Nature conservation – Stay on designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when in nature. Leave the forest at the latest at dusk to not disturb the rhythm of nocturnal animals.

Safety information
Bike riding on farm roads – Our bike routes often run on paths shared with others. We therefore ask for considerate and friendly behaviour at all times. Winemakers, farmers, and foresters use these farm roads through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work – also on weekends. Work activities and/or weather conditions may occasionally cause the paths to be dirtier. Special care is also needed when crossing roads in and around Palatinate villages. Road closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Danger situations – If an emergency occurs, quick help is essential. Although mobile phones can send GPS signals, classic rescue points often work fastest. These are located at places easily accessible to emergency vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In emergencies, return there and give the number on the sign when calling for assistance. This way, rescuers know where to find you.
