The 10 most beautiful hikes in Bezirk Lienz
Hiking in the Carnic Alps in the district of Lienz
The Carnic Alps rise in the south of East Tyrol. They mark the border to Italy and reach heights of up to 2500 metres. As a long mountain range, they extend all the way to Carinthia. The Carnic Alps are still considered a real insider tip. In the district of Lienz, Sillian, Kartitsch and Obertilliach are particularly good starting points for exploring the original landscape on hikes. These are often long and demanding tours that require a good deal of stamina. In order to reach the saddles and peaks, long valleys usually have to be crossed beforehand.
If you want to do longer hikes here, you can also plan a stopover at one of the numerous mountain huts. Among the best known are the Sillianer Hütte, the Porze Hütte and the Obstansersee Hütte.
Hiking in the Lienz Dolomites
The Lienz Dolomites are located south of the town of Lienz and are bordered by the Lesach Valley in the south and the Gailberg Saddle in the east. In terms of appearance, they are in no way inferior to their famous namesakes in South Tyrol: spectacular peaks of limestone tower up to almost 3000 metres above sea level. In between lie crystal-clear mountain lakes and several huts invite mountain lovers to spend one or more nights in the midst of this unique landscape.
The mountains are spectacular and made of limestone.
The mountains are particularly suitable for multi-day hikes and hut treks. The first destination is the famous Dolomite hut, which is probably one of the most beautiful in the Alps. Another popular destination is the Karlovy Vary hut. Both of these can also be combined into one hike.
