The "gentle" first stage of the Gailtal High TrailWe start in the Kartitsch district of St. Oswald with the destination Golzentipp, the local mountain of Obertilliach. However, the hike can also be done in the opposite direction. This section of the high trail runs on the sunny side of the Tyrolean Gail valley and rewards with beautiful panoramic views in all directions. New in the Golzentipp area are the Children's Mile and Nature Games Golzentipp along the Glamp meadows (see tip).

Drau Cycle Route: Toblach – Lienz, Hohe Tauern National Park – Tauferer Valley An attractive cycling route runs through the entire Puster Valley—between Mühlbach in South Tyrol and Lienz in East Tyrol—and follows mostly dedicated, car-free paths. The downhill section between Toblach/Innichen and Lienz is particularly popular—especially among Italian cyclists. Almost all of them take the train back. For those who are fit, have a mountain bike, and have time for an extra day, we recommend a return trip that takes you along a gravel road through the Hohe Tauern National Park, over a pass nearly 2,300 meters high, and through the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park into the Tauferer Valley and back to the South Tyrolean Puster Valley.

A worthwhile destination for children as far as the Gölbnerblickhütte hutThe Celar waterfall, which was shielded from the forest until 2016, has been made accessible via steps and secured climbing passages and is now also ideal for a hike with children. Two viewing platforms bring us very close to the spectacle of the steeply cascading stream. In contrast, the much higher Seealplsee lake awaits us, dreamy and motionless at the foot of the Gölbner, the fifth highest peak in the Villgrater mountains.

A perfect mountain experience with Finsterkofel as an extra challengeAnras, 1261 m, in the middle Puster Valley is of Rhaetian origin. Among the most important historical buildings are the Pfleghaus, inhabited for over 200 years, with special exhibitions, municipal library, and more. Worth seeing is the fresco-adorned parish church of St. Stephen. The high alpine meadows, spreading widely south of Gumriaul, guard the Anraser Lake and, to the west, the Ascher-Green-Letten Lake and small ponds.

Two rewarding mountain destinations in the Kristeiner ValleyNoteworthy in the Kristeiner Valley is the Gothic parish church of St. Justina, perched on a rock at 1209 m. Of interest is the strictly guarded breeding site of the Carnica (Carinthian bee) in the area of the Celar Waterfall (see tour »Celar Waterfall Trail and Gölbner«). This honeybee breed, native only to regions south of the Alps, is considered particularly healthy and resilient. The Arnsteiger bivouac on the Bockstein is a shelter for 3 to 4 people in a very small space. The destinations Sichelsee and Bockstein can be reached as two independent tours or as a rather long day tour.
