Lots of flow trails and with some short spicy sections! A wonderful combo!
From the impressing monastery Thierenbach cycle to Jungholtz, then on the trail & gravel mix parallel to the road to Rimbach. The road becomes steeper here and the ascend to Grand Ballon really sets off. Soon you´ll ride on forest gravel past Ebeneck and Judenhut until, after a final steep, you have made it to the Col du Grand Ballon. The route des cretes and the views up here attract a lot of visitors on bikes, motercycles, by foot or car. On clear days you can even see the alps.
The downhill starts directly at the parking lot and is brilliant, fast and rough with lots of rocks and roots. It is popular amongst hikers, though... Back at the Col du Judenhut turn south and follow the flowy trails to Firstacker and Col Amic. These are very fast in places and big fun. At Col Amic the best trail of the day starts, the natural mix of forest soil, roots, rocky gullies and switchback sections is amazing for technically fit riders. After a last short uphill grind you return to your starting point on lightly adapted trails for bikers through a beautiful pine forest.
