Andros Route 05 - Korthi - Vouni - Vrachnou
This route offers another connection (additional to that of route 3) between Korthi and Chora, through the backcountry of Andros and some picturesque villages higher up on the mountainous terrain that separates the two.
The route starts from Korthi and ascends to pass the ridges that separate Korthi from Vrachnos - a village higher up in the valley where Chora is located. The ascent takes the hiker sometimes between abandoned fields and sometimes between settlements, highlighting the ways of peripheral settling that corresponded to the farming ways of the past. Through Paleokastro and Stavros, the route approaches a plateau at an altitude of between 500 and 600 meters that embraces the settlements of Exo Vouni and Mesa Vouni. After a short descent towards Mesa Vouni, the route approaches the last ridge that separates Mesa Vouni from Vrachnos and Chora. The route here follows the typical pattern of stone fences that bound properties against the cobblestone road. In the last section, the route descends firstly on a narrow track and then on a typical path, with an open horizon towards the sea and the settlements around Chora. The end of the route in Vrachnos is about 2.5 kilometers from Chora, en route 18. The view for most of this route is unobstructed and the hiker has the opportunity to observe numerous settlements and geomorphological features of this part of the island, as if studying a map of the area.
