From 17 August until approx. the end of October 2026, forestry work is taking place in the Rosenthal forestry district, in the area between Winterleitenstraße and Fuchsbachweg/Taubenbachweg surrounding the Rotsteinhütte in the direction of Cunnersdorf. The work is carried out with a cable crane which makes the work especially dangerous. The closures on site have to be observed at all times!

Due to the acute bark beetle infestation, the stability of the dead spruce stands has been greatly reduced. Throughout the national park area, dead trees and collapsing deadwood pose a very high risk on many paths. This is why some paths are currently declared impassable. For your own safety, please refrain from walking on the marked section of the Bergsteig until the situation has eased. It is not permitted to walk on the areas outside the paths. Please use the Erlsgrund and the Winterbergstraße instead (about 1.5 km).

Due to the acute bark beetle infestation, the stability of the dead spruce stands has been greatly reduced. Throughout the national park area, dead trees and collapsing deadwood pose a very high risk on many paths. This is why some paths are currently declared impassable. For your own safety, please refrain from using the Bärfangwände ascent, the Gehackter Weg as well as the upper part of the Hintergründel (upwards of Marienhöhle) until the situation has eased. It is not permitted to walk on the areas outside the paths.

Throughout the national park area, dead trees and collapsing deadwood pose a very high risk on many paths. This is why some paths are currently declared impassable. After thorough consideration, the path Eulentilke has been declared impassable due to acute danger of fallng trees as well as fallen trees blocking the path.
For your own safety, please refrain from using the Eulentilke until the situation has eased and use Jordanweg instead. It is not permitted to walk on the areas outside the paths. 2025-11-25 – 2026-12-31

The Ehrlichtweg/Klahrens Grund between Waltersdorf and Porschdorf is currently closed for safety reasons. The closure was put in place by the city administration of Bad Schandau. Measures to make the trail safe again are already planned. Please refrain from using the trail for your own safety until it is opened again.

Hiking trail through Kohlichtgraben currently impassable

The marked section of the hiking trail through the Kohlichtgraben is currently blocked by fallen trees. As the affected section is private forest, the trail cannot be cleared by the National Park and Forestry Administration, and there is currently no prospect of it being cleared in the short term. It is therefore strongly recommended to avoid this section and take the yellow line and the road via Goßdorf instead. This also applies to the Malerweg.
For Malerweg hikers, this extends the route by 3.6 km. Alternatively, the section via Waitzdorf can be omitted by instead hiking from the Brandstufen on the blue dash trail (ZW, E3 and EB). This takes you through the Tiefer Grund via the Frinztalmühle and along the Sebnitz to Kohlmühle. This shortens the route by about half a kilometre. Link to route: https://mapy.com/s/cohelopofe

Closures due to forestry work

From 15 September until 30 November 2026, forestry work for forest tending is taking place in the Cunnersdorf forestry district. The forest area between the forest trails Krippengrund, Schifferweg, Gliedenbachweg and Wiesenweg will therefore be temporarily closed. Closures may affect the hiking trails red dot (in the area near Großer Zschirnstein), yellow line, green line as well as in short intervals the Forststeig around the bivouac area. Please always observe the closures posted on site as the forestry work will take place in intervals. There is a danger to life in the closed areas!
