The lock house was rebuilt and renovated ecologically in 2010 and is now the gateway to the nature reserve of the "Petite Camargue Alsacienne". The lock house offers a space of reception and information as well as a recreational space, but it also fulfills educational functions for the CINE (Nature and Environment Centre).
The lock house was closed after the decommissioning of the Canal of Huningue in 1961. It was reconstructed and renovated ecologically in 2010 and is now the gateway to the nature reserve of the Petite Camargue Alsacienne.
From the car park of the lock house, you can easily walk to the heart of the nature reserve (follow the indications, 15 minutes), to the Fish Farm, to the Nature Reserve House and to the exhibitions “Mémoire du Rhin” and “Mémoire du Saumon”.

The purpose of the Canal of Huningue, branching off the Rhine at Huningue and ending near Mulhouse, was to feed the Rhône-Rhine canal. But right from the start, it served as a navigable waterway for small ships. When it was built, the 28-km-long Canal of Huningue was equipped with four locks (Huningue, Neuweg, Rosenau, Kembs). It was flooded in 1828 and was opened to ship traffic in 1833.

Megközelítés
Autobahn A35 (E25) Ausfahrt Bartenheim, dann Richtung Saint-Louis folgen.
In Neuweg an der Ampel ist die Petite Camargue angeschrieben. Folgen sie der Strasse bis zum Schleusenhaus am Kanal von Hüningen.
ACHTUNG: die Strasse ist Sonntags und Feiertags geschlossen.
Von der anderen Seite erreichen sie das Schleusenhaus über die D21 (zwischen Village-Neuf und Rosenau), wo das Maison éclusière ebenfalls angeschrieben ist.
