Karici village is unpopulated village in the municipality of Vares. The name Karici comes from Hajdar-dedo (grandfather) Karic who built a mosque here. This place is very important for Muslim people and there is a traditional prayer in the last week of June.
Karici Mosque was built in the time of sultan Fatih, from ground to the top, and it’s made of handmade wood without nails. With structure of cross binded wooden beams it is suitable to natural ambient. The mosque is also coverd with handmade wooden roof. The name of architect who made it Seih Hajdar-dedo Karic is kept in folks tradition. It was renovated several times in its centential beeing and in the war in 1994 it was burned till the ground. After that it’s renovated out of authentical materials, pine and spruce wood from mountain Zvijezda in 2003.
