Triglav National Park

One of the oldest European parks is the largest protected area and the only national park in Slovenia. It was named after the highest Slovenian mountain, i.e. 2,864-metre high Triglav that has been proclaimed a kind of “holy mountain” by Slovenians. Triglav National Park encompasses a large part of the eastern Julian Alps and stretches over the area of seven municipalities in the Julian Alps Community. Crystal clear rivers and lakes, green glacial valleys, vast forests and mighty Alpine peaks create the unforgettable image of an alpine paradise. The Kingdom of Zlatorog is home to more than 7,000 animal and around 1,6000 plant species. 

People here live and breathe in harmony with nature; therefore, Triglav National Park became the first biosphere region in Slovenia also ranked on the list of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves under the Man and Biosphere project. Pastures are only a stone in the mosaic of preserving the cultural landscape within the park. Today, the responsibility for exceptional nature is also demonstrated in sustainable mobility, promoting the use of environmentally friendly transport means like train, bus and bike.
