The Via da Prata is an ancient Roman trade route that connected the South with the North of Spain, between Guijón (Seville) and Astorga. The Via da Prata Portuguese Way - Transmontana variant of the Ways of St. James is the alternative to the Sanabria crossing. It is an internationally renowned route that was integrated in the map of the Ways of St. James - First European Cultural Itinerary of the Council of Europe in 1987.
