Connect Google's Health
Android phone users can link Google's Health Connect to Outdooractive. Send track duration, length, speed and elevation (ascent).
What is Google's Health Connect?
Google's Health Connect allows health and fitness apps to exchange health data. This happens using an optional app, "Health Connect", where different apps can send data to it, and receive data from it.
Outdooractive sends data about tracks when you finish and save a track. We send the duration and length of the track, as well as speed and elevation (ascent).
How do I enable Google's Health Connect?
In Outdooractive, there are two places where you can enable the Health Connect integration:
- When finishing a track: there is a popup asking you to enable it. This only happens once, so if you deny it or just dismiss the dialog, it will not re-appear.
- In the "Connection" settings: there is a section at the bottom of the list for Health Connect where you can just press the "connect" button.
When you want to connect to Health Connect, you may be prompted to install the Health Connect app from the Play Store. We direct you to the Play Store, where you can just simply install it.
Grant Permission
Once connected you need to grant permissions for the different kinds of data Outdooractive writes to Health Connect, like "duration" or "speed".
You can either grant all permissions, or just a few. If you grant only some permissions, we work with those remaining permissions to write data. For best results we recommend you grant all the permissions asked for.
What else do I need to know?
We only ask for write permissions, not for read permissions. So we can write Outdooractive data to Health Connect, but Outdooractive can't see any data from any other apps.
The Health Connect app itself is more of a service, it doesn't have an app icon you can click on. You access it via Outdooractive's "connected accounts" settings.
After you gave it permission, you see a "disconnect" and a "manage" button there. With the manage button, you can change permissions, but you can also see the data we write to Health Connect.
