After hiking for about 2½ hours from Courmayeur, you’ll emerge onto a high meadow to the rifugio Bertone, a nice place to stop for a break and perhaps a drink. The view down to Courmayeur and across the valley to Mont Chétif is very nice, yet you don't want to spend your entire break here... the main view of the Mont Blanc range still awaits just over the ridge.
People can also stay at Bertone, which has a mix of rooms and dormitory.
On our tours, we tend to spend 2 nights in Courmayeur, and Bertone is too close for another overnight, but it makes a great stop for a cold drink after hiking all the way up here from town. We like to stop, enjoy a drink, then hike 5 minutes above the hut for a picnic lunch at a fantastic viewpoint.
