We love stopping at Bovine when hiking this route. As the name suggests, Alp Bovine is an alpine farm normally surrounded by cows and mud. Bovine has a nice picnic area with numerous tables, and great views down to Martigny and the Rhone valley below. It is a good place to stop for drinks and a snack, about 3-3½ hours from Champex and about an hour from Forclaz. They are quite friendly and have a small but nice selection of food.
They will allow you to eat your own picnic there if (and only if) you are buying something to eat or drink from the restaurant.
