Discover the region

Geographically, Neuburg am Rhein is located on the left side of the river, while Germersheim is on the right. Both towns are connected by a bridge and thus offer many opportunities for walks along the river.

Neuburg is known for its picturesque old town with narrow streets and historic buildings from the 17th century. Visitors can visit the castle here or take a walk through the castle park. Another highlight is the pilgrimage church Maria Himmelfahrt, which impresses with its baroque architecture.

Germersheim, on the other hand, offers numerous museums such as the German Street Museum or the Museum of European Cultures. Germersheim Fortress, which once served as a defensive fortress, is definitely worth a visit as well.

Cultural events take place in both Neuburg and Germersheim: The annual wine festival attracts many visitors and offers local specialities such as Riesling wines or Pfälzer Saumagen - a traditional dish of pork stuffed with potatoes and spices.

Outdoor activities are also plentiful: in summer you can explore the Rhine by canoe or kayak and in winter the nearby ski area is a great place to go. Hikes in the surrounding forests are also possible at any time of year.

If it rains, there are also plenty of options in Neuburg and Germersheim: Visit a museum or go to the theatre, for example. A wine tasting in one of the many wine taverns is also a good idea in bad weather.

In summary, Neuburg am Rhein and Germersheim are definitely worth a visit. The picturesque location on the Rhine and the numerous sights make these towns a perfect destination for anyone looking for cultural highlights as well as outdoor activities. So a travel guide should definitely recommend both cities!
