The art trail in picturesque Jockgrim has its origins in the international sculpture symposium. The symposium was organized and conducted
by Prof. Karl-Heinz Deutsch – an internationally renowned artist and sculptor beyond Jockgrim, who was appointed an honorary citizen of our community in 2020. Ten sculptors from five European countries worked here in summer 1989 and created ten sculptures on the grounds of what was once the largest brickworks in Europe. Today it is the Bürgerpark. This laid the foundation for the Jockgrim art trail. Long before this time, Jockgrim was known as an artists' village.
The reputation was significantly shaped by the artists living and working here, including the painter Albert Haueisen - also an honorary citizen of our community. Thanks to the commitment of the local community of Jockgrim, its art-interested citizens, and the Zehnthaus Art Association, more artworks found their place in various locations in Jockgrim afterward. A provisional conclusion was set in 2014 with two loans from the internationally known sculptor Franz Bernhard, who lived and worked in Jockgrim until his death in 2013. To bring this collection, which has meanwhile grown to 19 artworks, out of obscurity and into the awareness of all citizens, the Zehnthaus association and the Ecumenical Working Group Art and Church initiated the Jockgrim art trail.
