Wanderfit - Emperors, Celts, and Romans: panoramic circular hiking trail Drachenfelsclub
Highlights besides small, fine places lovingly maintained by the Drachenfelsclub in the forest are the Kaiser-Wilhelm Height (picnic) with its panorama of the Palatinate Forest and Limburg Monastery Ruins as well as the best preserved Roman quarry north of the Alps, the Kriemhildenstuhl, with 2,000-year-old "Roman graffiti" carved by legionaries. Sandstone from here was used in Worms and Mainz. Enjoy the magnificent view from the large rock platform over the town, vineyards, and the Rhine Plain to the Odenwald and Black Forest on the sensory lounger with a hearty Palatinate snack with Riesling. The path accompanies the mysterious Heidenmauer, a ring wall from around 500 BC that protected the 26 ha, perhaps the first city of the Palatinate. At the end awaits the "World Wonder of Wine," the Giant Barrel, the 1934 realized dream of cooper Fritz Keller, built from 200 fir trees, each 40 m high, processed into 178 staves, each 15 m long and 15 cm thick.
Health tip: breaks while hiking
Even on short distances, it makes sense to take breaks and eat or drink something. Especially children love resting and playing a bit after a snack before continuing.
