The charming nature route leads through the original Isarauen, the idyllic Ampertal, and connects the historic Isar towns Moosburg and Freising. Between Freising and Moosburg, the Isar bike path runs directly through the Isarauen nature reserve. Many plants and water birds can be seen. In Moosburg on the Isar, a detour to the historic old town is worthwhile before continuing along the 4-star Ammer-Amper bike path through the idyllic Ampertal to Zolling. Several small villages and beautiful viewpoints directly on the Amper invite you to relax and linger.

Another highlight is the cathedral town of Freising with numerous sights and cultural treasures. Along the route, many places invite you to stop and quench your thirst - from the milk vending station to the beer garden. Refreshing swimming opportunities are offered by the gravel ponds Haager Weiher and Anglberger Weiher near the Amper.

    Author’s recommendation

Along the way, a 2-km detour to Haag a. d. Amper to the local village shop is recommended, offering a large selection of fresh organic fruit and a rich cheese counter. Especially recommended: the coffee corner and the outdoor area under the shady chestnut tree.

    Roadbook

From Marienplatz in Freising's city center, take Obere Hauptstraße to Bahnhofshofstraße. There, turn left and at the Mohrenbrunnen, turn left onto Fürstendamm along the Moosach until it leads into Ottostraße. Again, keep left, follow Ottostraße a short distance, and cross the railway tracks at an underpass. Now the path follows Parkstraße until turning right into Erdinger Straße. At Korbinianbrücke, join the Isar bike path, which leads past several bridges out of the Freising city area towards Marzling.

Through green floodplain forests, following the Isar bike path, you reach the "Isarauen" nature reserve. Here, you encounter a pristine Isar and valuable floodplain areas that provide habitat for numerous animal and plant species. Between Rudlfing and Hangenham, a detour (short, steep climb) to the Nature Friends House with a magnificent view over the Isar valley is recommended.

Continue on the Isar bike path to Moosburg a. d. Isar. Here, a visit to the famous St. Kastulus Minster, a stroll through the historic old town of Moosburg, or a break in one of the many cafés and restaurants should not be missed. Now follow the Ammer-Amper bike path towards Langenbach via Thonstetten and Inkofen, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Ampertal from a hilltop. A detour at Haag a. d. Amper (from Langenbach on the Bocker bike path toward Haag, approx. 3.5 km) is worthwhile to one of Bavaria's oldest beer gardens, Schlossallee Haag. Following the Ammer-Amper bike path further leads to Zolling. On this section, the Anglberger Weiher and Haager Weiher gravel ponds invite you to cool off with a swim on hot summer days.

Shortly after Zolling, turn left towards Freising and follow the signs of the "WasserRadlWege Oberbayern" up the Ampertal (steep climb) to Tüntenhausen. From there, you must climb another, but easier ascent before crossing the street at the Wies Church and descending along a quiet gravel path at the forest edge into the Freising district Neustift. Follow Wiesenthalstraße and turn right into Alte Poststraße at Neustift Church and Neustift Monastery (today's Freising district office), following it for about 1 kilometer. At the large intersection, the path continues straight on along the traffic-calmed General-von-Nagel-Straße into the city center, before turning right into Untere Hauptstraße and shortly thereafter arriving at Marienplatz.

The cathedral town of Freising itself offers numerous winding alleys, pretty townhouses, and various places to stop for a break in its historic old town to conclude the route. A visit to the Marian Cathedral on the cathedral hill is also worthwhile.
