The signposted, flat route takes you on a length of approx. 32 km from the cathedral and imperial city Speyer on the Rhine in a westerly direction through the rural Gäu, past Harthausen and Freisbach into the Upper Rhine Plain to Hainfeld.
On your way from Speyer, you first reach the "cycling community" of Dudenhofen. Rudi Altig once trained on the local velodrome on Iggelheimer Straße. Further via Harthausen to Gommersheim, past Böbingen and Freimersheim. Over Großfischlingen and Edesheim, you finally reach Hainfeld. Particularly worth seeing beside the World Heritage Site, the Speyer Cathedral, are the castle and the Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul in Edesheim.
WATCH OUT! - Campaign for considerate behavior in nature
- Be considerate on the way - Always behave attentively, friendly, and considerately towards everyone you meet. This applies especially on farm paths where winegrowers, farmers, and foresters also work on weekends.
- Picnic & waste - Remember to take a rubbish bag with you and take your waste home again. Use only furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
- Nature conservation - Stay on marked paths and avoid unnecessary noise when in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest to not disturb nocturnal animals’ rhythm.

Safety information
Cycling on farm and forestry roads - Our cycle routes often run along paths shared with others. We therefore ask for always considerate and friendly behavior. Winegrowers, farmers, and foresters use these roads through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work - also on weekends. Due to work activities and/or weather conditions, the paths may sometimes be more heavily soiled. Special caution is also advised when cycling on streets in and around Palatinate villages. Path closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Hazard situations - In case of emergencies, quick assistance is needed. Even though mobile phones can send GPS signals, the classic rescue points are often the fastest. These are located at places accessible to emergency vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return there and give the number on the sign when calling for help. This way, rescue personnel will know where to find you.

Roadbook
With the mighty cathedral behind us and the paved Maximilianstraße ahead, our route begins. We cycle along the traffic-calmed Maximilianstraße towards the city tower Altpörtel and then pass underneath it. Immediately after at Postplatz, we turn slightly right onto Mühlturmstraße. After the railway crossing, we turn slightly right again onto Holzstraße and ride along the Speyerbach out of the city. The path initially passes the cycling community of Dudenhofen. Rudi Altig once trained on the velodrome on Iggelheimer Straße. The route continues through the Gäu, a flat landscape interspersed with streams, past Harthausen to Freisbach. There, we first ride over the main street, turn right onto Waldstraße, and leave the town heading north. We leave the Rhine plain and arrive in the wine road region. Passing Gommersheim, the path leads through the small local community of Böbingen. We stay on the main street. About 400 meters after leaving the village, the cycle path turns left and we reach Freimersheim. We follow Rathausstraße first and then turn right onto the main street. Passing vineyards and fields, the route goes to Großfischlingen and further to Edesheim. There we first follow Jahnstraße, then turn right into Speyerer Straße and cross the state road (L516) at its end. The route then continues on Luitpoldstraße, which becomes Ludwigstraße and leads us out of Edesheim. Along the Modenbach, we reach the destination Hainfeld.
