“A villa in the Italian style, designed only for the beautiful season and located in the mildest part of the kingdom” – this wish was fulfilled by King Ludwig I of Bavaria (1786 – 1868) with Schloss Villa Ludwigshöhe near Edenkoben.

The classicist villa, reminiscent of ancient models, enchants with precious hardwood floors, opulent ceiling and wall paintings, and a unique view extending far over the Palatinate and the Rhine valley.
The current exhibition reflects the great enthusiasm for antiquity that was sparked in the 18th century by the rediscovery of Pompeii. It shows how this fascination also inspired King Ludwig I and is still reflected today in the architecture, paintings, and artworks of Villa Ludwigshöhe.
