The Terras de Trás-os-Montes region is located in the northeastern part of Portugal, covering an area of approximately 5,538 square kilometers. The territory encompasses the municipalities of Alfândega da Fé, Bragança, Macedo de Cavaleiros, Miranda do Douro, Mirandela, Mogadouro, Vila Flor, Vimioso, and Vinhais. To the north and east, it borders the Spanish provinces of Galicia and Castile and León, respectively; to the south, it is adjacent to the municipalities that are part of the Douro Intermunicipal Community (CIM Douro), and to the west, those of the Alto Tâmega and Barroso Intermunicipal Community (CIM Alto Tâmega e Barroso).
The region presents two distinct realities in terms of morphological and climatic characteristics, which have given rise to the designations Terra Fria (Cold Land) and Terra Quente Transmontana (Transmontana Hot Land). The former is characterized by higher altitudes and a colder, more humid climate, while the latter features lower altitudes and a warmer, drier climate. A region of genuine culture, reflected in unique ancestral traditions and festivals in the country, Terras de Trás-os-Montes invite you to direct contact with a cultural and natural heritage that its people have tenaciously managed to maintain and preserve.
