The "Buraco da Pala" is located in the town of Passos, on the peaks of the Serra dos Passos. The ocupation of this location started in the New Stone Age, lasting until the Copper Age. Maria de Jesus Sanches (1997, II: 138) argues that the ocupation had started at the begining of the first half of the fifth millenium, during the years of 2800-2500 B.C.
This space was occupied to store agricultural products. Between 1986 and 1990, archaelogical excavations took place, directed by archaelogist Maria de Jesus Sanches, professor of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. This shelter was used as a seasonal living space, having possibly, existed huts in the area, being used during the Copper Age as a storage space. On it was found a schematic mural paiting.
