A grandiózus, kőfoglalású kutat 1889-ben építtette Swadló Ferenc vasgyáros. Irma lánya betegségből épült fel, és az ezért érzett hálából hozta létre a 3 m magas kőépítményt, amelynek aljában kifolyócsövön érkezik a friss, hideg víz egy kővályúba. A forrás vízhozama manapság nem nagy, szárazságban előfordulhat, hogy csak csöpög belőle a víz. A szomszédos étteremben viszont ekkor is van lehetőség a frissítésre, illetve a Kéktúrán Szendehely felé 1,5 kilométerre találjuk a sokkal biztosabb hozamú Aranyos-kutat.
A forrás közelében erdei pihenőhely épült számos paddal, asztalokkal, esőbeállóval, játszótérrel és tűzrakóval felvértezve. Az Irma-forrás az Országos Kéktúra bélyegzőhelye – a pecsétet a forrás mellett találjuk az étterem kerítésén, a bélyegzőképen maga a forrás látható.
