A templom alapjául egy 1905-ben, a határban fellelhető homokkőből épített kétszintes harangtorony szolgált, amelyet egy korábbi, fa harangláb helyére emeltek. 1937-ben ezt magasították egy második emelettel, falain pedig minden oldalról neoromán stílusú ikerablakokat ütöttek. Ekkor készült el a torony bádogsisakja. A toronyban már ekkor két harang lógott, a kisebbiket 1905-ben, Sopronban öntötték Mária Magdolna tiszteletére. A nagyobbikat az 1937-es átépítéskor készíttette Egregy lakossága, az I. világháborúban elesett 16 helyi áldozat emlékére. A hősi halottak nevei a nagyharang köpenyén is megjelennek, emellett abban az évben a harangtorony mellett 16 hársfát is ültettek, előttük fejfával. A fák közül hat még ma is látható. A harangtorony falán később táblát helyeztek el a II. világháború egregyi áldozatainak emlékére, ez ma a templomkertben látható.
Az 1990-es évek elején kezdtek el a helyiek komolyan gondolkodni a mai templom megépítésén, amelyhez váratlan segítséget is kaptak. Az akkori polgármester – aki vérbeli Fradi-drukkerként nőtt fel – kereste fel a Ferencvárosi Torna Clubot, akik vállalták az anyagi támogató szerepét. Ezt követően kicsit változtattak a terveken, az eredetileg kék-fehér templom színeit zöld-fehérre változtatták, így tisztelegve a támogatók előtt.
1994-ben Bocskai János tervei alapján kezdtek el templomhajót építeni a toronyhoz. 1995 tavaszán szentelték fel az új templomot Jézus Szíve tiszteletére. A legtöbben ennek ellenére csak Fradi-templomként emlegetik az épületet, amelynek a Ferencvárosi Torna Clubbal való szoros kapcsolatát jelzi, hogy a belső kialakításban is a fehér és zöld színek dominálnak, és az FTC tiszteletére egy kis emléksarkot is kialakítottak a bejárat mellett. A templom mellett 2000-ben katonai emlékparkot létesítettek, ahol az I. és II. világháború egregyi és hévízszentandrási áldozatairól emlékeznek meg. Összesen 70, névvel ellátott fejfa áll most a templom oldalában.
