A Kisirtáspuszta felett magasodó Tolmács-hegy keskeny gerincéről, fátlan hegyoldaláról a Börzsöny délnyugati részére nyílik zavartalan kilátás, de az ágak között kelet és nyugat felé is kitekinthetünk.
A kilátóponthoz a S▲ keskeny gerincen vezető „akadálypályáján” jutunk fel: a csalánnal benőtt, kidőlt fák szabdalta ösvény hatalmas, öreg bükkök között ágazik ki a S+ jelzéséből. Az 528 m magas hegycsúcson állva a Nagy-Sas-hegy–Sós-hegy vonulat látványa „szűrődik át” a lombokon, kissé lejjebb jóval tágasabb panoráma nyílik délnyugatra: a Nagy-Koppány és a Sákola-tető kúpjai között az Ipoly szalagja csillan meg. Nyugat felé fordulva pedig a hegységperem fölött látunk rá a Kisalföld végtelennek ható síkjára.
A Tolmács-hegy északi oldalában, Kisirtáspuszta közelében található a transzbörzsönyi kisvasút ún. „csúcsfordítója”, amely 1999 óta ipartörténeti műemlék.

- A Tolmács-hegy kilátópontjához legközelebb a transzbörzsönyi kisvasút Nagyirtáspuszta vasútállomását találjuk.
- Ha buszoznánk, a Nagybörzsöny, községháza megállóban szálljunk le a járműről.

- Nagyirtáspusztáról a S+ jelzések vezetnek fel a Tolmács-hegy oldalába, ahonnan a S▲ jelzéseken érkezünk meg a csúcsra (1,4 km, 89 m szintemelkedés).
- A Nagybörzsöny, községháza buszmegállóból a S jelzéseken indulunk el, majd jobbra, a S+ jelzésre térünk. Az erről balra leágazó S▲ jelzésen jutunk fel a Tolmács-hegy kilátópontjára (5,1 km, 350 m szintemelkedés).

Nagybörzsöny főterén, a Hunyadi téren ingyenes parkoló van kialakítva, de a kisvasút végállomásánál is hagyhatjuk a kocsit.
