Döbrököz várának története
A Kapos folyó mocsárvilága által védett területen előbb földvár állt, amit a tatárjárást követően kőből építettek át. A várat a török hódítások időszakáig királyok és nemesi családok felváltva birtokolták. A várnak nevet adó Werbőczy család birtokába 1534-ben került, amikor Szerecsen János özvegye Werbőczy Istvánhoz ment feleségül. István igyekeztett jó kapcsolatot ápolni Szulejmán szultánnal is, azonban halála után fia, Werbőczy Imre már nyíltan fellépett a törökök ellen, gyakran zavarta az ország déli végében portyázó csapatokat. 1542-ben Szászvár határában még sikerrel verte vissza az ellenséget, azonban érezve a fokozódó nyomást, elrendelte a döbröközi várának megerősítését. Ennek ellenére 1544-ben a török csapatok sikerrel ostromolták meg a várat, Werbőczy Erdélybe menekült. A vár egészen 1687-ig török uralom alatt állt, felszabadulása idején is már romos volt, helyreállítása később sem történt meg. A 18. században még magtárnak használták, később azonban építőköveit szinte teljesen széthordták.

Az 1540-es években gyakran megfordult a döbröközi várban, itt írta meg első haditudósítás jellegű művét is, mely a kozári ütközetről szól, leírásából tudhatjuk meg, hogyan győzte le a csatában Kászon mohácsi béget Werbőczy Imre.

- A Döbrököz, autóbusz-váróterem megállóból indulva a S turistautat kövessük északnyugat felé, majd forduljunk jobbra, murvás zsákutcába: jelzetlen úton érjük el a célunkat (220 m, szintemelkedés nélkül).
- A Döbrököz vasútállomásától indulva a P◼ turistaúton érjük el a S jelzést, amin balra fordulunk, majd a rögtön jobbra induló jelzetlen utca vezet el a várromhoz (700 m, szintemelkedés nélkül).

- Autóval egészen a várromig tudunk menni.
- Amennyiben sétálni is szeretnénk, a Döbrököz vasútállomásnál célszerű kocsinkat lerakni.
