A lakótorony története
A dombóvári kisvárat (a település nagyobb erődítménye a Kapos partján álló Dombó vára volt) vélhetően a 13. században építették, amelyhez helyben égetett téglákat használtak fel. A várat 3-5 méter mélységű árok, valamint 2-3 méter széles sánc védte. A vár a 16. században leégett, újraépítésére nem került sor. A várhely komplett feltárása 1998 és 2000 között történt meg, mely során nemcsak középkori, hanem kora Árpád-kori és késő bronzkori leletekre is bukkantak, tehát a várhelyet már jóval a lakótorony megépülte előtt is lakták. A lakótorony feltárt alapfalaira 2013-ban építették rá annak rekonstrukcióját, melyben kiállításokat rendeztek be.
A Kossuth térről Dombóvárra
A dombóvári Szigeterdő szobrai között járva egy-egy alak ismerős lehet: ugyanezen figurák jelennek meg a budapesti Kossuth Lajos tér Kossuth-emlékművén. Horvay János 1927-ben felavatott szoborcsoportját már akkor számos kritika érte – megkérdőjelezték egyfelől a pénzügyminiszter Kossuth kiemelését a Batthyány-kormány tagjai közül, illetve az emlékmű borús hangulatát, lehajtott fejű alakjait –, így a Rákosi-korszakban lebontották azt, s Kisfaludi Strobl Zsigmond alkotását állították fel helyén. A pusztulásra ítélt szoborcsoportot Antal István dombóvári tanácselnök vásárolta meg a város számára, s helyezték el azt – igaz, darabokban – a Szigeterdőben. A történet azonban még egy fordulatot tartogatott: a Kossuth Lajos tér 2011-ben kezdődő rekonstrukciójának koncepciójában az eredeti, Horvay-féle műalkotás visszaállításának terve szerepelt, azonban a dombóváriak heves tiltakozása miatt végül annak másolata került, és áll ma is a „nemzet főterén”.

- Jobb közlekedési kapcsolatokkal rendelkezik a Dombóvár vasútállomás, és a mellette található Dombóvár, autóbusz-állomás buszmegálló.

Parking
- Parkolhatunk a Földvár utcában, közvetlenül a lakótorony közelében, ám a parkolásra alkalmas helyek száma alacsony.
- Érdemesebb Dombóvár alsó vasútállomásnál parkolni, itt nagyobb mennyiségben található parkolóhely.
