Az Alsó- vagy Egyházaskustány plébániatemplomának épült gótikus templomot feltehetően a 12. században emelték, első írásos említése 1256-ból való. A 16. században a növekvő török fenyegetés miatt Kustány épületeit megerősítették, azonban 1588-ban a Zala völgyébe betörő török seregek így is feldúlták a falut, a templom is súlyos károkat szenvedett.
A templomot hangulatos ártéri erdő veszi körbe, több famatuzsálemmel is találkozhatunk a közvetlen környezetében. Február és március hónapokban az erdő gyepszintjét a tízezres egyedszámban virágzó hóvirág varázsolja fehérré, ez idő tájt a romtemplom látogatottsága is jelentősen megnő.
