The "Queichwiesen loop" from Bellheim provides an access route to the longer "Queichwiesen circular hiking trail (Intangible Cultural Heritage)." However, it is also its own approximately 5 km long route.

The 5 km "Queichwiesen loop" is particularly suitable for families with children because of its length, surface, and many interesting points of interest. It also serves as an introduction to the longer "Queichwiesen circular hiking trail" which, starting from the Bellheim forest cemetery (L540) at about 9 km, presents the "Intangible Cultural Heritage" with the special feature of the reedy meadows (www.queichwiesen.de).

The start and end point is the Schützenhaus Bellheim (free parking). The route passes by the adventure playground, war memorial, Spiegelbach, Knittelsheimer Mill, and remains of the former munitions railway (World War II). The junction with the "Queichwiesen circular hiking trail" is the forest cemetery (L540). At the rest area there, it is worth taking a look not only at the information boards on fauna and flora but also at the wood and sand meadows with a stork's nest. Here the path splits: north onto the "Queichwiesen circular hiking trail" or south on the "Queichwiesen loop" back to the starting point.

    Author’s recommendation

At the starting point "Schützenhaus" in Bellheim there is an adventure playground. It is especially suitable for families with many waypoints and path conditions.

    Safety information

Please note: Do not enter the forest during wind and storms due to the danger of falling trees!

From October to the end of March, forestry work in the forest may lead to sections of paths being closed to hikers. Heavy logging work in wet weather during this time may cause the surface of forest paths to deteriorate and become harder to pass.

Please remember protection against mosquitoes and ticks as well as weather-appropriate clothing.

Dog owners please keep dogs on a leash in the open meadows to protect ground-nesting birds!

Please pay special attention to traffic when crossing the L540!

    Roadbook

Starting from the Schützenhaus at the end of "Am Sockweg" in Bellheim, the path leads westward past the war memorial. At the L540, the route turns left and then goes a few meters south to the roundabout at the entrance of Bellheim. Please cross the street here (caution when crossing) and follow the path on the other side of the street along the Spiegelbach to the Knittelsheimer Mill. The path then turns right and reaches a rest area where an old cart from the former munitions railway (World War II) is still located. From here, follow the path straight north until you reach the forest cemetery (rest and parking area at the L540). Take some time here to read the information board about the "Intangible Cultural Heritage" and to let your gaze wander over the wood meadow. You can clearly see the weirs in the meadow, which are needed for irrigating the reedy meadows in spring.

To continue on the path, please cross the L540 at the northern exit of the parking lot (caution when crossing). On the other side of the street, you must decide: the path continues north on the "Queichwiesen circular hiking trail." To the south, the "Queichwiesen loop" leads back along the road to Bellheim. At the village entrance, follow the path behind the buildings, which you have already walked from the start of the route. Passing the war memorial again, you reach the starting point of the route.

    Public transport

    Public-transport-friendly

From Landau: Main station with the Rhine-Neckar Transport Association bus 550 or 552 to Bellheim, stop "Neue Löwenapotheke." From there, take the main street to the Protestant church and continue right to Hintere Straße. Cross it and continue straight through Mittelmühlstraße, Forststraße to the end of "Am Stockweg." The Schützenhaus is the starting point of the hike.

From Bellheim: S-Bahn connection S51/52, stop "Am Mühlbuckel." Walk west along the street of the same name to the roundabout. From there, go to Postgrabenstraße, then turn right into "Am Hasenspiel" street and continue to the forestry office at the end. Here, turn left and follow a paved path above the buildings (past the dog training ground of the German Shepherd Club) until you reach a first intersection. Here, turn left to the "Schützenhaus" (starting point).
