The route leads through the open clearings to the former hunting castle Friedrichsbühl and through the Bellheim forest and is especially suitable for families due to its length and course.
The hike from the shooting range leads to the open clearings and into the Bellheim forest. A short stop is worthwhile at the former hunting castle Friedrichsbühl (information sign). Elector Friedrich III built a water castle surrounded by an artificial moat here in 1550. A viewing platform allows a view of a few architectural remains. Maybe you’ll even catch a glimpse of the Palatinate mythical creature, the Elwetritsche?
Back on the main path, head north where you reach the Queichtal hiking trail of the PWV (HW48). Follow it eastwards, then south-eastwards. To cross the Sollach, the Friedrichsbühl path leaves the PWV path. It opens into a beautiful oak forest. In a straight line you pass an experimental forest field for planting climate-resistant tree species and reach the new residential area of Bellheim. From there it goes westwards on the southern part of the "Kleiner Bellheimer" back to the shooting range (section at the end as at the beginning).

Please note: Do not enter the forest in wind and storm due to the danger of forest breakage!
From October to the end of March, forest work may cause trail sections to be closed for hikers. Heavy timber hauling in wet weather during this time can damage the forest road surface and make them more difficult to pass.

#Watch out! For consideration and nature conservation
Hiking, walking, strolling, cycling, mountain biking, climbing, trekking, picnicking, forest bathing, chilling and dining. Vacation and leisure in the fresh air should be fun and above all relaxing. This works best when we treat ourselves, other people and nature carefully and attentively. SO: WATCH OUT AND THINK ALONG! Be considerate of everyone on the way and especially of nature, so that we can enjoy it even in the distant future.
We have listed some behavior tips for considerate and careful coexistence at www.pfalz.de/uffbasse.

Roadbook
It is recommended to park at the Bellheim shooting range (end of the forest road). There is also a spacious playground with a water spiral there. This is where the Friedrichsbühl circular hiking trail starts. It first leads straight into the Bellheim forest to the clearings, where you can observe storks from April to September with some luck. Not far from there you reach the former hunting and water castle, which Elector Friedrich III had built there in 1550. The current ruins reveal little of the grandeur of the complex. It can be reached a few meters from the main path. The castle was formerly surrounded by the Sollach, which was specially diverted from the Queich. The square-arranged moats can still be clearly seen. A view of the architectural remains can be caught from the viewing platform, where allegedly Elwetritsche (Palatinate mythical creatures) can also be spotted. There are rest areas there.
Back on the main path, continue until you meet the PWV path (HW48) (rescue point no. 6715-476). Follow the path east and then south. When the PWV path almost meets the Sollach again, leave it. The Friedrichsbühl circular hiking trail turns south and leads through a beautiful oak forest. On the right side in the straight extension of the path, you pass an experimental field for climate-resistant trees, which the forest department has established there. The challenges of climate change are also becoming visible in the Bellheim forest. At the height of the beginning development, the path leads west and meets the path you already walked to the start. Here you go a short distance south back to the shooting range.
