    Author’s recommendation

During paddling, expect lively motorboat and boat traffic on the main branch of the Szentendre Danube all day! Paddle downstream not in the middle but closer to one of the banks!

    Safety information

During paddling, you must comply with relevant regulations! Every person on the paddlecraft must have a life jacket of appropriate size on board! Wearing it is mandatory for non-swimmers and those under 14 years old! Motorboats must be avoided maintaining at least 50 m lateral distance! Ferries always have priority; approach them cautiously!

    Roadbook

Before setting off from Szentgyörgypuszta, it is worth crossing over to Kisoroszi by the ferry. It is barely 150 meters, and you can explore the well-maintained, statue-filled "downtown" in complete peace away from the hustle and bustle of the main road. You can safely start from the backwater below the ferry (backwater: a water mass flowing backward behind a protrusion of the shore). Stay close to the right bank, but avoid the pontoons lined up along the shore! With medium water levels, you can paddle behind the island at the beginning of Dunabogdány. It is barely 200 m long, but you can travel along a charming, narrow side branch next to the main road. Once you have passed it, move further inside, carefully avoiding the yacht harbor! Ahead of you is a narrow section, behind it a huge backwater, with the yacht harbor's long pontoon in the center. In the downstream water, go about 100 m further down and only there paddle out to the beach! Kindly dock near the lower part of the beach! Around the beach, you will find several buffets, bakeries, and restaurants.

Keep paddling along the right bank! After the stone loading area, 2 km away, you can paddle into a zigzagging branch system if the water level is suitable. There is a young floodplain forest on the islands, which in itself is a special sight. Below the last island, on the opposite shore, a side branch offers itself. Don't miss this either! It is almost impossible not to see herons or other water birds here. If you stay along the left bank, the shore in front of the Tildy Zoltán bridge is suitable for swimming.

Opposite, between the bridge and the pier, a shady forest edges the well-maintained meadow, the site of the Bridge Fairs. If you continue, after 4 km of forested section, you will reach Leányfalu. Here, above the Pocsmeyeri ferry pontoon on the right bank, you will find a good mooring place, as well as buffets, benches, and restaurants nearby. It is worth walking to the well-preserved ruins of the Roman watchtower, which you find to the left at the main road, before the gas station. After departure, everything fits into an hour. First, you leave the Határ Tavern. There is a ferry here, so be careful! Then you reach the Pap Island on the right bank, where you can only paddle into the side branch if the water level is at least medium. Then comes the pier, followed by downtown Szentendre. After that, at the bottom of the backwater behind the narrow section is the beach: the final stop. If you have time, walk up to the town! It is worth it...
