During paddling, you must comply with the applicable regulations. There must be a life jacket of the appropriate size for each person on board. Wearing it is mandatory for non-swimmers and children under 14 years old! Motorboats must be avoided with at least a 50 m lateral distance. Special attention must be paid to navigation signals: they may mark dangerous places and the edges of the shipping channel.Roadbook
A footpath leads from Rácz Garden down to the water launch site. There, turn right and head up against the current! The riverbed is shoaly up to the island tip; depending on the water level, you need to keep different distances from the shore, but stay close to the island because the current is stronger on the far side. Look around at the island tip! If you feel like it and the weather is good, take a swim at the best natural pebble beach of the Danube Bend! Not only the long pebble shoal but also the panorama is wonderful. If no large boat is coming, cross the Váci Danube branch!
Among the Kisoroszi islands, the upper one is right in front of you, but feel free to aim for the second island; this way you can land just beneath it without much effort. At low water level, the sandy shore is especially suitable for swimming. This is where the upstream paddling begins. Paddle into the small side branch to the right of the island! If it has enough water, paddle through the channel that splits the island to reach the main branch: you’ll have a nice adventure! Whether you continue this way or that, also bypass the upper island on the right! It is calm, beautiful water. When you reach the top of the island, on the left bank (which is on the right side when paddling upstream), you’ll find a barely visible narrow entrance. This is the branch behind the next island. It is a narrow waterway, sometimes slightly wider, paddleable even at low water level. Paddle on it until you reach the yacht marina! Here you can stop for lunch at the marina’s restaurant, or continue and paddle out to the Danube, where the route is free all the way to Nagymaros.
From here to the beach, you need to keep a proper distance from the many pontoons and marinas. This is the hardest section of the route. If you have the strength, the beach below the ferry, the cafés, restaurants, and attractions will make up for it. On the way back, it is best also to stay close to the left shore, crossing the shipping lane only just before the tip of Szentendre Island. If you’re in a hurry, you can get back in half an hour’s paddle—if you have time, enjoy an hour of drifting and sightseeing. The view of the Visegrád castle from the water is beautiful.
