The most spectacular mountain of the Danube Bend is St. Michael's Hill. Although it cannot be completely circumnavigated, three sides are washed by the Danube; here it breaks through between the Visegrád Mountains and the volcanic peaks of Börzsöny. Our journey starts from Szob and ends in Nagymaros, opposite Visegrád Castle. Indeed, this is the most spectacular 12 kilometers of the Hungarian Danube section. Be sure to stop in Zebegény to visit the Shipping History Museum! Under the ferry in Dömös, a great buffet and grassy resting place await opposite St. Michael's Hill. Nagymaros' well-kept shore and main square provide an excellent final point for a day adventure.

During rowing, relevant regulations must be observed. Every person on board must have a properly sized life jacket in the boat. Wearing it is mandatory for non-swimmers and those under 14 years old! Motor boats must be passed at a minimum side distance of 50 m. Pay particular attention to navigation signs, which may mark dangerous areas and the edges of the navigable route.Tips and suggestions

Launch your boat in Szob in front of the kayak-canoe club house, at the 1707 river kilometer marker! At medium and low water levels, the shore is pebbly. If you stay along the left bank, you only need to avoid one or two pontoons; otherwise, your path to Zebegény Island is unobstructed. If you choose the opposite shore, you can row into two bays. Their sandy-pebbly shores and faster warming waters invite swimming, but be careful, as these are not designated bathing areas! Zebegény is located opposite the entrance to the lower, smaller bay.
If the water pushes you under the island during crossing, don’t worry! You can dock well just below the lower tip of the island, after the ferry boat pontoon. Visit the Shipping History Museum and take a walk through the village reminiscent of early 20th-century atmosphere as painted by István Szőnyi! Continuing your journey, a pleasant riverside buffet awaits at the Dömös ferry, opposite which you can see the Hermit Cave on the side of St. Michael's Hill. Be particularly cautious when docking under the ferry at Dömös! One of the area’s strongest backwater currents (a water mass flowing backwards behind a shore promontory) endangers docking.
Rowing further, keep close to the left bank again, at the foot of the hill! If you pass to the left of the green navigation markers on the water, you will certainly stay out of the way of large ships. A beautiful moment of the route is when the Visegrád Castle emerges behind the poplar row. From here, it’s still 3 km to the Visegrád-Nagymaros ferry. Beware, as it always has right of way; never row across in front of it! In Nagymaros, stop about 100 m below the ferry ramp at the pebble shore beach.

Equipment
Start in weather-appropriate clothing! Bring a change of clothes packed in a waterproof bag or barrel. If the temperature is suitable for swimming, wear a swimsuit under your clothes. Your equipment should include a raincoat and rain pants, which protect not only against rain but also against wind.Localization
