Zsitvay lookout tower
The 378-meter-high stone tower was built in 1933 on the top of Nagyvillám hill, and declared to be a national monument in 2005. Since then it has become a very popular tourist center. Originally it was called ’’Jubileum’’ lookout tower referring the 20 th anniversary of MTSZ. Designers tried to keep the characteristics of Visegrád castle and Salamon-tower to maintain harmony. Spiral stairs lead to the upper level where we can enjoy a full panorama.
From the top we can spot Budapest and its neighborhood but in clear weather we can see at a distance of 100 km. We will be amazed when seeing a panorama from Mátra Mountains to Pilis and Zsámbék basin. The most beautiful part of it is the Citadel (Fellegvár) which is not observable from any other places from the same angle and height. One floor below a little exhibition introduces natural values nearby.
Around the tower we can find some picnic spots, paths, an alpine and summer bobsleigh track, a mini golf course, and a restaurant.
