On the way in the legendary Trifelsland: medieval castles and rock formations shape this wonderful mountain bike route.

At the start, we roll through the historic town of Annweiler, then after a short climb pass the Meisenbrunnen to the village of Sarnstall. On a side street we reach Rinnthal. Then it continues on a forest road with a longer climb, followed by a descent on an easy path that leads us into the small village of Spirkelbach. There, we cross the village and ride opposite onto a forest track towards Ochsenborn, then at the top turn right onto a trail. On this narrow path several switchbacks have to be negotiated. First on forest paths and then on a side street we continue to Lug and then partly on a bike path to Schwanheim. Here, there is a short climb up to the Schwanheim Wasgau hut. This would also be a chance for a break and to enjoy Palatinate delicacies. We now ride on a beautiful forest path to Darstein, then bike under the ruins of Lindelbrunn. Here we recommend briefly leaving the Mountainbike Park to visit the medieval castle ruin. From this rock castle there is also a panoramic wide view of the Palatinate Forest. It continues with ups and downs to Silz. There we pass directly by Silzer Lake, then after passing through the village, bike up the Roman path. Below Hundsfelsen, it goes to Treutelskopf. There you have a beautiful deep view of the surrounding mountains, the benches invite to a short rest. Then it continues to a loop above Klingenmünster. First, we bike a nice long hillside trail, briefly interrupted by a forest track crossing, downwards. Flat then onward to Landeck castle. The medieval castle offers a lot: be sure to allow some time there. After the castle, we ride up a wide forest road to return to the normal loop via Treutelskopf.

After a short descent, it goes up again via Waldhambach and Waldrohrbach, past the climbers' hut and a narrow path to Bindersbach. There we follow the side street and ride through the spa park back to Annweiler train station.

    OUR PATHFINDER RULES

"Out of everyday life – into nature!" A few basic rules help to make the MTB tour a sustainable experience for people and nature.

    1. Only ride on permitted paths. According to the Rhineland-Palatinate state forest law, cycling on footpaths and foot trails is not permitted, except for the trails on our routes.
    2. Leave no traces. Take your trash home and protect our trails by your riding style. Avoid braking with locked tires. Do not cut switchbacks.
    3. Keep your bike under control. Stay within your comfort zone, adjust your speed to the situation, you must be able to stop within sight! Do not underestimate the technical and physical demands of our tours. Inform yourself in advance.
    4. Respect other path users. Announce your arrival in good time, preferably with our pathfinder bell! Do not ride on certified hiking trails. Be considerate of paths shared by hikers and mountain bikers. Hikers have right of way. Let other users pass.
    5. Be considerate of animals in the forest. We move in their habitat. Give them peace and do not disturb them while feeding. Avoid rides at dusk or at night.
    6. Do not build illegal trails. Use the existing, approved routes and courses.
    7. Be a role model. Show by your behavior how mutual consideration works and that it leads to good coexistence for all forest users. Help by living these rules.

These rules are based on the Trail Rules of the German Mountainbike Initiative (www.dimb.de) and the campaign #LoveTrailsRespectRules of the Bike Magazine.

Landeck castle offers not only an incredible view of the Rhine valley but is also known for its hearty Palatinate cuisine inside the castle courtyard.

    Safety information

The trail descents are mostly very flowy and simple. Some trail sections are covered with a thicker layer of leaves, which can hide roots and deadwood that are not immediately visible.

Your own skills and condition must be realistically assessed.

Riding the route is fundamentally at your own risk and responsibility.

Expect typical forest hazards like fallen trees/branches etc.

Please be sure to respect other forest users/hikers, stop and dismount if necessary: pedestrians have the right of way!

The entire route is marked with Mountainbikepark Palatinate Forest signs.

This route is also suitable for e-mountain bikes.
