The angular keep of the castle built in 1200 has been preserved in its original state. From its 25-meter-high platform, the view opens up over the Vorderpfalz to the Odenwald and the Black Forest. The castle is the youngest of three castles around Klingenmünster, all of which had one purpose: to protect the flourishing Benedictine abbey of the locality. Characteristic of the Staufer style is the ashlar masonry of the 12th century found in the original preserved parts. This includes, above all, the proud keep, the highest and best-preserved in the Palatinate. From its 23-meter-high platform, a wide view opens over the Palatinate plain to the Odenwald and the elevations of the Black Forest.
