The Geschriebenstein, at 884 meters, is the highest peak in Burgenland and worth a visit for that reason alone. Extensive hikes through the magnificent forests of the nature park can be undertaken all year round and have a special charm, especially in windy and rainy weather.

This easy hike starts at the pass and leads over forest roads across the border into Hungary and slightly altered back to the starting point. Mostly it goes through the forest, but there are also beautiful wide views, especially from the observation tower that stands half in Austria and half in Hungary.
A visit to the Geschriebenstein Nature Park offers insights into the impressive nature of the region. The hiking trail passes through pine forests and repeatedly offers magnificent views of the Alps and the Pannonian region.
Author’s recommendation
Best to pack a snack, as there is no place to dine. A visit to the nature park office in Rechnitz is also recommended. Here you can get plenty of information about the nature park and its projects.

Safety information
No special hazards. The hike runs over simple paths.Roadbook
From the parking lot at the pass, we follow the wide road to the highest point. The observation tower stands exactly on the border between Austria and Hungary, offering a great panoramic view from above. Now we cross the border and follow the path to a clearing with another great view. Returning to Geschriebenstein, we take a path one level lower; a steep path leads us back up to the highest point, and we retrace the already known path back to the starting point.
