Rail & Trail "Over the Kreuzbergl into the pulsating heart of Klagenfurt"
After the lively, urban green space, we immerse ourselves in the secluded, natural deciduous forests of the Kreuzbergl - a gentle, hilly forest ridge. After a short climb, the first visual highlight opens up : past rustic vines, the eastern bay of Lake Wörthersee lies at our feet! We continue through a magnificent deciduous forest to the idyllic summer resort pavilion on the Zillhöhe (536 m). We gain height in an arc, pass the highest point and enjoy the ups and downs of the atmospheric deciduous forest on the southern flank. At the "Weißer Hirsch" memorial plaque, the path changes to the northern flank of the Kreuzbergl. Root paths, play of light in the canopy, birdsong ... pure natural idyll! The eastern end of the Kreuzbergl is reached on the forest top of the observatory (522 m) - our summit, so congratulations! A short descent, then the second viewing highlight opens up at the Kalvarienberg group: Klagenfurt city center lies at our feet!
Now we walk into the lively old town of Klagenfurt. The Ringstrasse marks the former city moat, which was fed with water from Lake Wörthersee by the Lendkanal. The heart of Klagenfurt lies within it: the glamorous municipal theater, the charming pedestrian zone, the medieval Old Square, the Renaissance-style New Square, ... Here, too, it's worth taking your time, letting yourself drift and enjoying the flair.
