With the barrel under his arm, the Wörthersee spirit brought a lot of mischief to a wildly partying society. They had really gone too far, and so the rooster of the little barrel brought death and destruction to the trespassing residents with endless floods. The vast amount of water buried churches and villages beneath itself, and the Wörthersee emerged.
The Wörthersee spirit was created in 1962 by the Klagenfurt artist and sculptor Heinz Goll.
Many passersby throw coins into the water basin of the Wörthersee spirit as lucky charms. According to an old tradition, you are allowed to make a wish!
