On the tracks of the former Hallertau Bockerlbahn: The bike route connects the Amper valley with the Hallertau and follows the original route of the Hallertau local railway to beautiful places.
The Bockerl cycle path runs mostly along the former route of the Hallertau local railway, also called the "Hallertau Bockerl." The local railway was built between 1893 and 1907 and ran from Wolnzach to Enzelhausen and from there further to Mainburg and Langenbach. Today, only a small section of the railway is still in operation.
The varied, partly challenging bike route leads from the Amper valley into the hilly landscape of the Hallertau, past striking hop gardens, small villages, and numerous sights such as the parish church of St. John the Baptist in Zolling, the neo-Gothic town hall in Nandlstadt, the Au castle brewery in the Hallertau, or the small Schimmel chapel near Rudelzhausen. Along the route, there are several bathing ponds and the forest pool in Nandlstadt. Cozy beer gardens and refreshment stops along the route invite you to take a break.
Author’s recommendation
In Rudelzhausen there is a connection to the Abens cycle path. From there you can continue to Mainburg and Abensberg or back to the starting point in Langenbach via Nandlstadt in a southern direction.

Roadbook
The following route description starts in Langenbach:
From the station in Langenbach, the route initially follows a short stretch along the railway tracks or along the road towards Haag a. d. Amper. There we turn left into a small wooded area and cross the Amper over an idyllic wooden bridge. Past the sports field, it goes on to Haag a. d. Amper. Here a first stop is worthwhile in one of Bavaria's oldest beer gardens, the Schlossallee Haag.
We continue along the Amper canal to Zolling. The two bathing lakes Haager Weiher and Anglberger Weiher, which lie close to the route, offer ideal cooling on hot days. A visit to the church of St. John the Baptist is worthwhile in Zolling. Now we follow the Bockerl cycle path north, over small villages and partly along the edge of the forest, to Attenkirchen with its historic village center. After the church, we turn right towards Nandlstadt. Now the view opens up and we cycle past fields and hop gardens as well as through the village of Figlsdorf, whereby some altitude meters have to be mastered. In Nandlstadt, the pretty neo-Gothic town hall, the village center, or the forest pool invite you to take a break.
The route then continues uphill on little-used side roads to Reichertshausen. Not far from there, in the direction of Willertshausen, there is a 6 meter high hop platform (Hopfenhimmel) with a beautiful view of the surrounding hop gardens. We continue on a gravel path to Au in the Hallertau. The hop community is known for the Au castle brewery with an attached beer garden. Au also offers various market tours, a historic village center, and further refreshment options.
Past the small wooded area Tannet, we continue along the former railway track to Enzelhausen with the well-known Schimmel chapel. Now we cycle through Rudelzhausen and encounter a small cycle underpass at the town exit, which shortly afterwards leads us to the end point of the Bockerl cycle path. There we meet the Abens cycle path, which continues towards Puttenhausen and Mainburg.
