Immerse yourself in the diversity of the Rhine and lake landscape on this charming bike tour. Ride through the shady, mystical Bienwald and let the peace of the forest enchant you. In Neuburg am Rhein, where European pond turtles have found a suitable habitat, you realize you are slowly approaching the Rhine with its old Rhine arms and lakes. The bike path leads along the Rhine floodplains, offering repeated stunning views of the mighty Rhine and its old arms and lakes. A special highlight is the Lautermuschel, a floating restaurant with a wonderful view of the water, and in Wörth am Rhein, benches and rest areas directly on the old Rhine arm invite you to take a little break. One of the most idyllic places is the old Rhine arm south of Jockgrim with its wooden fishing piers and huts. The bike tour is a perfect combination of nature, water experience, and enjoyment.

UFFBASSE! - Campaign for a considerate coexistence in nature

    • Travel considerately - Always behave thoughtfully, friendly, and considerately towards everyone you meet along the way. This is especially true on agricultural paths, where winemakers, farmers, and foresters also work on weekends.
    • Picnic & waste - Remember a trash bag for on the go and take your waste back home. Use only furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
    • Nature conservation - Stay on designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when in nature. Leave the forest at the latest at dusk to avoid disturbing the rhythm of nocturnal animals.

    Author’s recommendation

Along the route, there are many old Rhine arms and lakes that are not always directly on the path or visible through the green floodplain landscape. It is worth looking closely, stopping, and letting the unique landscape affect you. Even short detours such as to the "Johanneswiesen" recreational area in Jockgrim offer a welcome refreshment after a bike ride.

    Safety information

Cycling on agricultural paths - Our bike routes often run on paths shared with others. We therefore ask for always considerate and friendly behavior. Winemakers, farmers, and foresters use agricultural paths through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work, including on weekends. Paths may be temporarily more soiled due to work deployments and/or weather conditions. Special caution is also required when crossing roads in and around Palatinate villages. Road closures and detours must be strictly observed.

Emergency situations - In case of an emergency, quick help is needed. And while mobile phones can transmit GPS signals, the classic rescue points are often the fastest. These are located at points accessible to emergency vehicles. Remember the points marked with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return there and provide the number on the sign during your emergency call. This way, rescue teams will know where to find you.

From Jockgrim train station we follow the tour into the Bienwald. On well-developed forest paths, it goes behind the "Herrmannsruhe" rest area to Wörth am Rhein. After a short detour through a quiet residential area, it returns to the shady forest, first to Hagenbach and then to Neuburg am Rhein. Before entering the town with its remarkable "Rheinauemuseum", we pass one of the old Rhine arms for the first time. Here, the European pond turtle has also been reintroduced, and there is an educational trail with interesting information about it.

From Neuburg, the route continues along the Rhine dike through the floodplain landscape on the Rhine. A detour to the Lautermuschel is definitely worthwhile. The floating restaurant also houses the local "Shipping Museum". Here, we can enjoy the idyllic water landscape on the Rhine. The route continues again to Wörth am Rhein. This time, the bike tour takes us through the city center. The nearby citizens' park with its sculpture garden, Ottstraße with its restaurants, and the benches and rest areas with a playground directly on the old Rhine arm at the town exit invite you to take a break.

Next, the cycle path runs along the Mercedes-Benz factory and the world's largest truck assembly plant until we can enjoy the idyllic Rhine floodplain landscape at the old Rhine arm south of Jockgrim. Here, we can listen to nature on the wooden boardwalks and, with some luck, watch waterfowl such as the kingfisher living here.

Then we continue to Jockgrim. The "Johanneswiesen" recreational area with its gravel pit lake offers the perfect conclusion to this bike tour, as the starting point at the station is not far away.
