The Schurwald itself gives the route its name and defines its character. Following the historic Kaisersträßle, the route winds through expansive forested areas that repeatedly offer views of the Filstal valley, the Albtrauf escarpment, and the surrounding communities. Nature trails and interpretive stations provide fascinating insights into the region’s flora, fauna, and ecological relationships.
The tour also has a lot to offer culturally: Adelberg Abbey is one of the Schurwald’s most significant historic sites, while Wäscherschloss Castle serves as a striking reminder of the Staufer era. Other worthwhile stops include Lake Oberwälder, the Herrenbach Reservoir, the Reinhold Maier observation tower, and the Nassach Valley with its traditional charcoal-burning industry.
With its moderate climbs, varied landscapes, and numerous places to stop for refreshments and rest, the route is particularly well-suited for experienced recreational cyclists and e-bike riders who want to actively explore the Schurwald.

Roadbook
The eastern Schurwald Route is accessible in both directions. Starting in Uhingen, the route first passes through Wangen toward Rechberghausen. There, the bike route turns onto the former Hohenstaufen Railway trail toward Wäschenbeuren. After a short stretch along the B297, the route continues along the idyllic Königsträßle toward Adelberg. It continues right through the heart of the Schurwald, passing through Schlichten and Baiereck, and down into the Nassach Valley. The bike path joins the Filstal Valley and runs parallel to the railroad tracks back to the Uhingen train station.
