Croatian vineyards to Stará hora
A circular route for more demanding trekking cyclists on the border of Moravia and Austria. Along the route, we will visit many monuments and enjoy beautiful panoramas of Moravian-Austrian nature.
The Dunajovice Hills area located west of the Pavlov Hills forms the most forgotten corner of South Moravia. The scenery of abandoned vineyards, uncultivated fields, and fallow plots creates a special atmosphere of a land without people. The start and finish of the trip is in Mikulov, a wine-making center, a town with an unprecedented concentration of Renaissance and Baroque monuments. We will spice the journey with a visit to Austrian neighbors, villages of northern Weinviertel (where we will hike up a lookout hill with wine cellars Galgenberg), the landscape of Croatian vineyards and scattered cellars on the picturesque ridge of Přerov Hill, with a stop at the Ekofarm Jáňův dům in Nový Přerov, wineries Marcinčák or Kovács in Novosedly, gradually reaching the gently hilly vineyard landscape up to Stará hora. The Dunajovice hills with the highest peak Velká Slunečná are today a rich and valuable botanical rarity due to unfinished work in the past. From Brod nad Dyjí along the Stará hora cycle path through Dolní Dunajovice and Bavory, we will get back to Mikulov.
