A Szent Mihály-hegy és a Hegyes-tető csúcsai környékén járva keskeny és mély, víznyelőszerű üregek tátonganak. A mesterséges eredetű aknák a Rákosi-korszak egy meg nem valósult beruházásának emlékét őrzik.

Az elhíresült bős–nagymarosi vízlépcső építésének megkezdése előtt már 30 évvel felmerült egy vízerőmű építése a Dunakanyarban. A folyót Nagymaros és Visegrád között duzzasztották volna fel, az éjjel megtermelt energiát pedig a Hegyes-tető és a Szent Mihály-hegy közötti gerincre építendő, több millió köbkilométer víz befogadására képes szivattyús tóban tárolták volna – pontosan úgy, ahogy később a Prédikálószékre tervezték.

Az előzetes vizsgálatok 1951-ben kezdődtek meg, a munkát vezető mérnököknek barakkokat építettek a hegyen, Nagymarosra pedig több környékbeli kőbányában dolgozó bányászt vezényeltek át. 7 akna készült el, ezeknek eredeti mélysége 12-20 m között változik, pontos elhelyezkedésük ma is beazonosítható a térképeken. A Sztálin 1953-as halálával megváltozott politikai viszonyok miatt a projektet szép csendben leállították, s noha az 1957-es Esti Hírlap még büszkén harsogja, hogy évente másfél millió tonna szenet lehet megspórolni az erőművel, abból végül semmi nem lett.

Az aknák közül néhány már eltömődött, amelyik pedig nem, azok mély, szűk gödrökként láthatók a turistaút mellett, és mivel balesetveszélyesek, az erdészet elkerítette őket.
