This long and varied route goes up the Scheuelberg and the Albtrauf; beautiful footpaths and many viewpoints lie along the challenging route. The Scheuelberg is the first ascent, already here beautiful viewpoints reward the effort. Weißenstein with the church and the impressive castle marks about the middle of the route. Finally, it goes to the Albtrauf, from which you enjoy numerous views. The Messelstein is surely the most impressive of them. The destination of the route is Kuchalb. The Kuchalber Hof lies directly on the route and is suitable as an overnight accommodation.

Here you go directly to Albsteig stage 7!

    Author’s recommendation

"The flagship of the Swabian Alb is the Albsteig (HW1). You will experience wonderful hikes there, and the many stories along the way, for example about the legendary Staufer dynasty, will fascinate you."

Manfred Winkler, trail warden Filsgau, Swabian Alb Association

    Safety information

The ascent to the Scheuelberg and the Albtrauf is not recommended in heavy rain or similar weather due to the risk of slipping.

This is a moderately difficult mid-mountain hike, the ascents are partly steep and the paths quite narrow. Experienced hikers will therefore have more enjoyment and pleasure here than beginners in hiking. Experience and endurance as well as the appropriate equipment are required. The Albsteig (HW1) was completely re-signed in 2016 and again certified as a quality trail in 2020. Additionally, a hiking map and/or a GPS device never hurt.
