From the small rock platform, a wide view opens up over Donzdorf, the surrounding forests and the gentle mountain ranges of the Swabian Alb. On a clear day, you can even see as far as the Stuttgart region. A bench under shady trees invites you to enjoy the landscape in a relaxed atmosphere.
The south-west facing rock consists of naturally occurring, weathered rock. Parts of the surface are exposed to the sun, while others are shaded by the surrounding vegetation. These different conditions create diverse habitats for plants and mosses.
White stonecrop and various mosses and ferns, such as wall rue and brown streak fern, grow on the rock surfaces. Herbaceous plants have also settled on smaller rocky outcrops. Particularly striking is the growth of mountain leek and isolated stands of bluegrass on the freely accessible cliff top. Junipers, privet, ash trees and hornbeams grow in the immediate vicinity and characterize the natural appearance of the site.
The Rötelstein is part of a larger band of rocks and is a characteristic feature of the landscape with its rocky outcrops up to around twelve meters high. As a natural monument, the site combines geological features, valuable vegetation and an impressive view to create a particularly attractive destination for hikes around Donzdorf.
