Over about 25 kilometers, the route goes from Donzdorf to Gruibingen. Along the way, nearly 900 meters of elevation gain must be overcome.
Many viewpoints with beautiful views of the Swabian Alb characterize this section of the Albsteig: Wasserberg, Fuchseck, and the Boßler are among the highlights. The path mainly follows trails and narrow paths, with some quite challenging climbs. Initially, however, it goes downhill to Gingen/Fils. Here the town is crossed, and you hike through the beautiful orchard landscape for about three-quarters of an hour uphill. Repeated views of the Kaiser Mountains and the Alb edge can be enjoyed. The path then leads into the Haarberg-Wasserberg nature reserve, before some ups and downs bring you to the viewpoints Fuchseck, Rötelstein, and finally the stage destination Boßler.

This is a moderate mountain range hike, with some steep ascents and fairly narrow paths. Experienced hikers will therefore enjoy and appreciate it more than beginners in hiking sports. Experience, endurance, and appropriate equipment are prerequisites. The Albsteig (HW1) was completely re-signed in 2016 and re-certified as a quality trail in 2020. Additionally, a hiking map and/or a GPS device never hurt.
