Az Apáti templomromPhoto: Farkas Péter
Ha a 13. században jártunk volna erre, egy apró, fiatal falu bújt volna meg az erdő alján. Nem is akármelyik: a félsziget legrégebbi települése állt itt egykor. Apáti, mely az apátság fennhatósága alá tartozott, a 13. századra már közel 600 főt számlált. A román stílusú templom, a török hódítás alatt elpusztult falu egyetlen megmaradt mementója, nagyjából egyidős a településsel: a 12. században épülhetett. Bár romként emlegetjük, valójában a teljes, keletelt, egyhajós épület újjáépült.
A faluval együtt a templom is elpusztult a török hódoltság idején. Az 1940-es években kezdték megóvni, majd 1999-ben közadakozás útján sikerült anyagi hátteret biztosítani az újjáépítéshez, melyet az Apáti templomrom Helyreállítási Alapítvány végzett. Ablakból keveset találunk a falakon, ami van, az is keskeny, lőrésszerű: ennek oka, hogy az egyház abban az időben a hívők biztonságérzetét igyekezett növelni építészeti megoldásaival. Napjainkban időnként miséket és koncerteket tartanak benne.

- A Tihany, delta elágazás buszmegállót Balatonfüred felől érjük el, némelyik busz egyenesen Veszprémből érkezik.

- A buszmegállóból a Lepke soron indulunk nyugat felé, rátérünk a 71-es főútra. 1 km séta után érkezünk meg az út bal oldalán lévő romhoz.
- A rom a ZT jelzésű Lóczy gejzírösvény (tanösvény) kezdő- vagy végpontja, a bejárás irányának függvényében.
Parking
- A 71-es út és a tihanyi bekötőút találkozásánál a bekötőútról elérhető ingyenes parkolót találunk.
