Im Jahre 1958 hat die Sektion Eisenstadt des Österreichischen Touristenklubs auf dem Buchkogel im Leithagebirge erstmals eine Aussichtswarte errichtet. Es handelte sich um eine Holzkonstruktion, die vom Baumeister Dipl.-Ing. Kienzl aus Eisenstadt ausgeführt wurde. Am 22. Juni 1958 fand im Beisein von ÖTK-Präsident Prof. Felix Halmer und Sektionsvorstand Arthur Zika die Einweihung durch Monsignore Prof. Josef Michl statt. Bereits zehn Jahre später mußte die Warte wegen Baufälligkeit abgetragen und auf neu hergestellten Betonfundamenten wieder errichtet werden. Die Neueinweihung fand am 17. November 1968 statt. Auch an dieser Holzkonstruktion nagte der Zahn der Zeit, sie wurde im April 1985 wegen Baufälligkeit im Rahmen einer Bundesheerübung gesprengt und abgetragen. Ab dem Jahre 1987 bemühte sich die Sektion um die Finanzierung einer neuen Warte, wobei man sich schließlich zu einer Stahlkonstruktion nach Plänen des Ziv.-Ing. DI Wolfgang Vasko aus Eisenstadt entschloß, die von der Firma Nikitscher aus Pinkafeld hergestellt wurde. Unter der Bauleitung von Dipl.-Ing. Gerd Schmirl wurde im Herbst 1992 mit der Aufstellung des zwölf Meter hohen und acht Tonnen schweren Turms begonnen, im Frühjahr 1993 konnte dann die Arbeiten abgeschlossen werden. Am 16. Mai 1993 übergab Landesrat Dipl.-Ing. Hermann Fister in Anwesenheit von ÖTK-Vizepräsident MR Dr. Helmut Erd und Sektionsvorstand Dr. Georg Schreiber die neue Buchkogel-Warte der Öffentlichkeit.
