The Dampfnudeltor in Freckenfeld is something of a landmark of the village and dates back to the time of the Thirty Years' War.
The Dampfnudeltor in Freckenfeld is decorated with steamed noodles carved in 1286.
During the Thirty Years' War, a Swedish cavalry squadron is said to have demanded a large sum of money from the village, otherwise they would plunder it. Instead of demanding money, the villagers managed to get the soldiers to agree to provide them with sufficient rations. Master baker Muck and other villagers cooked gravy with wine and baked steamed dumplings on a piecework basis until everyone was satisfied (1286 pieces in total).
Later, the Dampfnudeltor was built as a result.
Dampfnudeln are a Palatinate speciality made from yeast dough and are usually eaten with wine, vanilla or goulash sauce.
