Die Hütte liegt im Talschluss auf 2.165 m , südlich von Galtür. Auf die Bergsteiger*innen warten im Sommer und Winter unzählige Gipfel. Die Hütte ist bestens ausgestattet und für besonders gutes regionales Essen bekannt.
Die "Jam" ist Teil der Kampagne Mit Kindern auf Hütten, einer Initiative der Alpenvereine in Deutschland, Österreich und Südtirol für familienfreundliche Hütten. Sie eignet sich für Kinder ab 7/8 Jahren. Ihre Erlebnisbereiche: Moränen, Bäche, Gletscherzungen und -seen; Klettergarten in Hüttennähe (Grad IV bis VII, Topos unter "Kletterarena Jamtal"); Klettersteig am Pfannknecht; Indoor-Kletteranlage; geologischer Pfad; Slackline und Spielgeräte. Im Winter: Skithochtouren, Schneeschuhwandern.
